Let’s begin with the most interesting things. So-called Named Entities Recognition (NER) is the most popular today’s trend that is actively developed and applied by the leading IT companies (Google, Microsoft…). In our case, we deal with NER in a desktop application which appears to be of interest in terms of its functionality.

So here we go. One day I came across some espionage news and decided to see what Summarizer will do with this article. I copied the content to the Clipboard, opened Summarizer and used the Summarize Clipboard* function.

As soon as Summarizer processed the news, I clicked the Named Entity tab and, believe me, accessed a quite interesting intellectual tool I have ever worked with. Summarizer showed me all the names from the news, such as the names of people, organizations, locations, etc.

I should note that Named Entity uses only the first three Name groups (Person, Organization, and Location) by default. In general, Summarizer can recognize 8 types of Name Entities. Named Entity tree accurately collects names in name groups like Persons, Positions, Locations, etc. When opening the name groups, I see the list of all the names mentioned in the article. Interesting is that all the names associated with the same object. But more interestingly, found Names belong to the same object  are linked together and form a kind of a profile. This way, I have an outstanding opportunity to get relevant information on the subject of interest.

Some of the name groups make no sense out of context, Date, for example. However, it perfectly supplements profiles and makes them more informative and pithy.

As for summary, it is displayed in a separate summary window next to Named Entity tree. It includes a number of the most important sentences of my news. Subject-oriented summary

Since diverse information can be fed into Intellexer Summarizer, the developers made Summarizer identify document type and its structure in order to ensure the accuracy of the summary.
